What Seeds You Can Start Indoors in January/February in Metro Detroit

If you are starting seeds indoors this year, it is important not to start seeds too early. Some plants, such as tomatoes, get big quickly and will outgrow their pots.

The lists below are a combination of hardy cool season veggies that will go out into the garden first AND warm season veggies that take a looooong time to grow so you should get a head start.

It is also important to know your microclimate- my estimated last frost date in Ferndale, MI is in late April, but just a 20 minute drive north the last frost date is May 5! All seed starting charts are different, so the exact timeline is really trial and error until you find what works great for you!

Here are a few ideas of what you can start from seed early in the year indoors.
